Chickens Are Wonderful Pets

About a year ago, Noah's Place got baby chicks for our petting zoo.  My daughter thought they needed extra care that they couldn't get at the barn in the evenings so they found there way to our garage.  Chickens grow fast and we have learned so much from them in the past year.  Hopefully what we share with you may help you decide if they are the right pet for you.

We have built a cozy home / coop for them.  SunnyDee is here enjoying an afternoon roost.

Obstacle Course - Most Popular Inflatable

During these summer months as kids and adults continue to look for action and adventure - Noah's Place has been staying extra busy.  Thank You.

DYK - that our most requested inflatable is the Obstacle Course?  It is.  Several of our inflatables offer ways to compete against your friends but this one was designed to do so.  Similar to drag racing, we stage the 2 competitors (1 foot must remain on the ground) and then we count down to launch the action.  The winner is the first one at the other end to touch the ground.

We will run elimination rounds until we have the winner.  There is equal playing fields here between the sexes as YTD the girls actually have a winning advantage over the boys.

Do you have a favorite inflatable memory??

Llama and Alpaca Sheering - Day at the Spa

The adventures of Noah's Place takes us to some very interesting places and most definitely meet some great people.  In May of each year it is time to get the winter coat off of our animals and get them ready for the summer hear.  Well, we were a little delayed this year because the person who has helped us in the past was not available.  So, what do we do?

We actually called the Forsyth county agriculture extension agency and they provided the resource that helped us out - Michael West with www.fourladiesandme.com .  We ventured to a beautiful farm at the foot of Pilot Mountain that has 55 llamas and so much more.

Lacey, Sunset and Wonka were treated to an afternoon at the Spa.  Manicures, medicines, and custom haircuts.  They were also able to visit with other llamas.

Sunset and Lacey - "You can hardly recognize them"

Lacey - preparing to be sheered.  If you notice our surrounding in this spectacular barn - we all thought we were in a fancy spa.  Lacey was calm and peaceful.  Plus she enjoyed her extra sweet feed in the bucket.

10 minutes later Lacey was done.  We collected all his fiber and will be woven into some wonderful garments by one of our missionary friends.

 Mani - Pedi

Wonka's Alpaca fiber is known for it's quality in making fine garments.

A new friend, only 9 days old, stand beside their mama llama as she takes a break.

Michael and Patricia West's Four Ladies and Me Farm is a family run farm near Pilot Mountain North Carolina that breed show quality llama.  They enjoy discussing anything about llama and usually have a few for sale.  Visitors are welcome.  Either email or call to arrange a visit.  You can find out more information about them and see some spectacular pictures at http://www.fourladiesandme.com/home.html

Thanks Triad Moms on Main

Our first contest in conjunction with the Triad Moms on Main was a huge success for Noah's Place.  Through our guest blog, click here to view, we were able to get more exposure, make more friends, + give away a memory maker experience to Kirsten.  She is very excited about the opportunity and will be sharing the experience with her friends and neighbors this fall.

We actually blogged about one of our favorite birthday parties several months ago, click here.  Below is one of our other JR. ZOO CREWERs Izzi dressing up as a cowgirl for her third birthday.

Noah's Place Now Has Ducks

We continue to grow and it sure is fun learning about other animals - how they act, what they eat, and especially how much fun they can be.  Some friends dropped off some baby ducks that were part of an Easter present (always think before you gift animals) and we were glad to take them in.

JR. ZOO CREWER Emma is enjoying some time with one of our 3 new additions (more pictures to come of all of them).  Yes, Purina has a baby duck food and they sure do love it.  They will also peck it right out of your hands.  What we learned from Skipper, is that the ducks must have water near by when eating.  They take a bite of food and immediately go to their water bowl (no name on it yet) to get a drink..
When in doubt what to feed your animals, check online http://www.purinamills.com/Default.aspx or if you are in Kernersville, stop by Farmer's Feed and Seed, ask Rex (we believe he has been around since Noah) and he always has the answer.

What Animal Lives the Longest?

You Simply Asked and here is the answer:
- Noah's Place experience with animals are with those that you will find on a farm.  We checked our primary resource for farm animals, and the first response based on being around them years on the farm is the horse.  Horses live to be approximately 30 years old.  Below is Shorty our oldest animal of our petting zoo. He is 20 years old.

Cows live to be 25 years old and by doing some research we found that llamas can live to be 30 years old.  While researching we found that the Galapagos land turtle can live to be 193 years old.

Keep the questions coming.

How Much Wood Could A Woodchuck Chuck?

No one submitted a question this week so I am sharing one that will always have us stumped.  For several years the woodchuck line has been an ongoing joke that I share with my daughter.  Thank God she is much smarter than myself.  So whenever I am put in to a situation where she has stumped me and obviously knows all the answers I will ask her the Simply Asked question of this week - How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Our friends at Geico have started to provide the answer.
